I see that blogger posts are timestamped when they are first created, not when posted. Guess that means I'll edit in bbedit before posting just to preserve the moment precisely.

Hi Bonnie. That shouldn't be necessary. Click the arrow on the left of the 'Post and Comment Options' label. Then you'll see an option to change the timestamp.
